19th C.Paint Decorated Box

Late 19th C. paint decorated document box, painted to resemble rosewood with gold trim on the edges, roses on the center of the top and a gold scroll around the keyhole. Interior is painted blue with a secret storage compartment in the top. May also have had a storage tray in the base as well. Nailed construction. 13″ L, 6 5/8″ deep and 5 1/2″ high.

Bride's Box
Bride's Box

Larger paint decorated Bride’s Box (21.5″ long, 14.5″ wide and 7.5″high). Detailed floral design retaining its original bright colors. Excellent structural condition. Some blue base paint loss in 2 small areas on the top. Very nice family picnic scene lithograph in a painted yellow, red and black surround on the top. Quite a nice example.

Sailor Bank
Sailor Bank

Early 20th C. cast iron child’s Penny Bank, 5 3/4″ tall. These banks were made to help children learn thrift and savings. Sailor form with its original worn silver and flesh colored paints. Well worn from use. Casting is crisp and nicely detailed. No damage. The sailor bank was made by the Hubley Co.

Ship Diorama, Great Lakes
Ship Diorama, Great Lakes

Historically interesting American ship diorama showing a ship passing the Marblehead, Ohio Lighthouse. The Marblehead Light, located on the Marblehead peninsula on Lake Erie, is the oldest continuously operating light on the Great Lakes. It was constructed in 1821. In 1880 a nearby dwelling was built for its keeper, and the Light was heightened in 1897. The ship has carved wood sails, and, overall nice composition and soft appealing colors. The diorama construction is all white pine. Excellent original condition including the gold frame. The size is 25 1/4″ wide, 20 1/2″ high and 3″ deep. Probably 4th Q 19th C. From an old Michigan collection.

American White Ash Burl Bowl
American White Ash Burl Bowl

Excellent large early 19th C. American white ash burl bowl with an excellent burl pattern. Very well turned with a nice wide raised rim. Very nice color inside and outside. Excellent original condition. One minor tight shrinkage hairline (3 1/4″). Bowl has a 15 1/2″ diameter and is 6 1/8″ deep.
