19th C. Paint Decorated Box
American paint decorated poplar document box with interesting dovetailed construction and original leather handle. The base color is a thin reddish brown wash, and the decoration is in cream, red and shades of tan. The lock and keeper are in place (no key). The wood is poplar. The condition of the surface and paint decoration is excellent. The top has a slight bow that raises the top right corner some (less than 1/4″). It also appears that a couple of partial interior dividers have been removed to make the interior space more useable. New England, New York or PA origin. Mid 19th C.
