Early Smaller Canoe Cup with Painted Rearing Horse on Red Painted Background
An Early Smaller Canoe Cup with a Rearing White Painted Horse On a Bright Red Background and Green Grass. May have been made for a child or younger adult. The White Horse is often associated with strength and success. The carver used the natural form of the Maple Burl to shape the bowl of the cup and the handle. 3 1/2” long. Nice appropriate wear and patina. There is an old stress crack at the top of the handle where the belt strap connected. The long leather strap is a later replacement. Found in Northern NYS.
